About this guide

SamariaGorgeHike.com is a guide to hiking the Samaria Gorge in western Crete: the tours from Chania, Rethymno and Heraklion, the entry fee and the boat back, the season and the daily hours, how hard the walk is, and the alternatives nearby. We are not the national park, NECCA, a tour operator, a tourism office or GetYourGuide: the site name describes what we write about, and the park sells its own entry tickets online and at the entrances.

Facts here are checked against official and primary sources (the national park's ticket site and rules, NECCA's announcements, ANENDYK for the boats, KTEL Chania-Rethymno for the buses) and the tour listings on GetYourGuide, including recent reviews.
